Asthma Attacks Declining Among U.S. Children

By Marie Rosenthal

The CDC reported good news: Children with asthma are experiencing fewer asthma attacks, missing fewer days from school, and ending up in the hospital less often, according to a new CDC Vital Signs report.

Today’s report shows that the percentage of children with asthma who experienced one or more asthma attacks in the preceding 12 months declined from 61.7% in 2001 to 53.7% in 2016. Hospitalizations for children with asthma declined from 9.6% in 2003 to only 4.7% in 2013.
