Gonorrhea Resistance Decreased for Some Antibiotics, Increased for Others

There is some good and bad news in the fight against antibiotic resistance to treat gonorrhea in Europe.

In 2014, the susceptibility of gonococci to two of the recommended antibiotics for gonorrhea treatment has decreased, according to results from the European Gonococcal Antimicrobial Surveillance Programme report. At the same time, the report notes a significant increase in resistance to another antibiotic agent that is part of the suggested dual therapy of gonorrhea.
