The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration has issued a final rule increasing the number of patients that physicians can treat with the medication-assisted treatment (MAT) drug buprenorphine.
“Expanding access to MAT is one of the three foundational priorities of the HHS [Department of Health and Human Services] Opioid Initiative, and buprenorphine is one of the drugs frequently used for MAT,” the HHS wrote in a release announcing the move.
