Telepharmacy Shows Its Worth in Cancer Setting

In the early months of 2011, Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale-New Haven in Connecticut, was facing a big challenge. With the clock ticking on its proposed acquisition of a high-volume, multi-office medical oncology practice, Smilow needed to show the practice’s oncologists that introducing a pharmacist care model would improve medication safety without compromising the rapid turnaround time that nurses provided by preparing chemotherapy admixtures directly from physicians’ orders.
