A new ASHP report indicates that explosive growth in overall prescription drug spending in the United States (13.5% year over year from 2022-2023, totaling $722.5 billion) had little effect on spending at hospital pharmacies. In fact, hospital drug spending decreased 1.1%.
“Hospital pharmacists specifically are seeing low growth of drug expenditures compared with other [pharmacy] sectors because most of the new drug development is focused in the outpatient
