Taking the Sting Out of Pricing For Isoproterenol

Las Vegas—There’s been no lack of outrage over the escalating cost of single-source generics such as isoproterenol. But one hospital in Washington, D.C., has moved past anger and taken the next step by implementing operational efficiencies to limit the beta-agonist's use.

The proactive step is saving Med-Star Washington Hospital Center, a tertiary care facility with a large cardiac care center, nearly $800,000 annually, according to Jennifer Brandt,
