Higher Risk for Death From Flu Seen in COPD Patients

Patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) face greater risk for death, critical illness and hospitalization if they have influenza, according to a new study.

The report also reveals gaps in care that need to be addressed, including not providing all patients with COPD the flu shot and failing to prescribe an antiviral medication in a timely manner once the patient is diagnosed with influenza.
