Study Finds Delirium Medications Commonly Stay on Charts Past ICU Discharge

Seattle—More than half of ICU patients placed on antipsychotics for the management of delirium were continued on therapy after transfer from the ICU and hospital discharge, placing them at an increased risk for adverse reactions, according to a pilot study presented at the 2018 ACCP Global Conference on Clinical Pharmacy.

“This is a big problem in many hospitals. Many antipsychotics [e.g., olanzapine, quetiapine] are automatically continued and stay on a patient’s
