Orlando, Fla.—Many interventions damage the kidneys, but drugs, especially antimicrobial agents, are particularly problematic, according to two experts who spoke at the 2018 annual meeting of MAD-ID (Making a Difference in Infectious Diseases).
In many cases, the kidneys don’t recover fully, and repeated hospital visits add insult to injury, creating a fast track to renal failure. In one study, only 20% of patients with multiple episodes of acute kidney injury (AKI)
