Non–vitamin K oral anticoagulants (NOACs), also known as DOACs (direct-acting oral anticoagulants), are now recommended over warfarin to prevent stroke in people with atrial fibrillation (AFib), according to an update to the 2014 American Heart Association/American College of Cardiology/Heart Rhythm Society Guideline for the Management of Patients With Atrial Fibrillation.
